Training & bicycle

How do I train myself?

Many people have asked us how to prepare for this type of event. First of all, we would like to stress that these are not races, so competitive performance is not required. However, training to spend hours in the saddle is necessary. Our advice is to train yourself to cycle at least 100 km a day at a constant and never exasperated pace. If, however, you are interested in all-round preparation, we are planning to create free courses for members of the Lazio Trail, more information will follow.

Which bicycle? Gravel or MTB?

The choice of bicycle is a key point as it will be your adventure companion and trusty steed, the thing you hold most dear. Therefore the bike must be in good working order and in excellent condition. As indicated, in our opinion the route is rideable with a gravel bike with a generous tyre section (at least 40 mm) and ratios to cope with steep climbs, sometimes with uneven ground, but obviously it is up to you to get to know each other and to know which is the bike that comes closest to your riding style and that will make you feel safer and more comfortable.

Start & Finish

How to arrive at the start?

The starting point of the Lazio Trail is the Parco degli Acquedotti in Rome, precisely Via Appio Claudio n.115 There is a bar and a restaurant of the local tennis club.

To reach the Parco degli Acquedotti with your bicycles, we recommend the following track, which starts from Termini Station. See the track on Komoot (to view the track you need to create an account).

And if you arrive by car?

Near the stating point there are many free, unguarded parking spaces where you can leave your vehicle. If you want to be on the safe side, there are many guarded garages in the nearby Quadraro district.(paid parkingspace indicated by Google Maps)

How do I return to Rome?

The arrival point is in Tarquinia at Camping Tuscia Tirrenica. The train station is about 4 km from the arrival point (how to get to the station) and is well connected to Rome by regional trains that transport bicycles for an extra charge of 3.50 euros. For timetables www.trenitalia.it.

Accommodation & travel

Is there luggage transport?

As indicated in the regulation, the cost of registration includes the transport of one piece of luggage per person. The luggage will be kept in Tarquinia at the arrival point. The organisation declines all responsibility in case of theft or loss of all or part of the luggage and stresses that in case of withdrawal of the participant will be responsible for the recovery of the luggage.

Where to sleep?

Research and planning is part of the adventure. Unless forbidden by the Covid authorities, you can decide where, how and whether to sleep. Please note that the event takes place over a festive weekend, so places are limited and special cancellation conditions may apply.
